Stage 2 load shedding will continue into the second week of January 2020, despite Eskom’s best efforts to repair a conveyor belt catastrophe at its embattled Medupi power station. While South Africans were hoping to see the last of load shedding at the end of 2019 – hopes further emboldened by president Cyril Ramaphosa’s promises of uninterrupted power ‘until 13 January 2020’ – Eskom has suffered serious setbacks in its generational capacity, leading to rotational cuts which began just four days into the new year.
