What is intersolar ?
Intersolar Europe is the world’s leading exhibition for the solar industry and its partners and takes place annually at the Messe München exhibition center in Munich, Germany. The event’s exhibition and conference both focus on the areas of photovoltaics, solar thermal technologies, solar plants, as well as grid infrastructure and solutions for the integration of renewable energy. Since being founded 27 years ago, Intersolar has become the most important industry platform for manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, service providers and partners of the solar industry.
Elum energy develops controllers for Solar Hybrid sites. Our customers are IPP and EPC that builds and operates solar diesel energy sites with or without storage.
The size of the sites can vary from 10kW for telecom sites, 100kW-2MW for Industrial and Commercial Buildings to 10 MW for Power Plants. Some of them, mostly Commercial and Industrial buildings, are connected to a poor electricity grid. Others do not have access to the grid at all like telecom towers, mini-grids or resorts.
PV Diesel integration is booming
All the poor grid and off-grid sites rely on diesel generators which consume an important amount of fuel. The energy produced by those gensets can cost up to three times more than the electricity from the grid. On top of that, these generators are very polluting since they have a large carbon footprint.
To reduce this high operating cost of diesel generator and to lower the carbon footprint, solar panels and batteries are a competitive solution to add on existing gensets. The management of the energy flows of such a complex system (PV + Batteries + Genset + Grid) and it requires to face several challenges.
The value proposition of the ePowerControl is not only high energy system reliability but more importantly decreased OPEX and increased ROI. By optimizing the operation of the diesel generators, such as reduced idling time, fuel costs are decreased by 20%.
Besides, by preventing reverse flow to the diesel generators and by optimizing the battery charge and discharge cycles, the material is better protected from degradation and the lifetime is increased. The software can reach solar penetration of up to 60%, also decreasing the carbon footprint considerably.
Elum has deployed monitoring and control solutions for 30 sites to customers in over 10 countries across Europe, the Middle-East and Africa.
