Smart energy control for the off-grid EV charging station - South Africa
SSA
EV Charging
300 KWp

Application
Zero export & EV charging
The context
- Product: ePowerControl EV
As EV adoption accelerates, charging infrastructure is
expanding into locations where grid access is limited
or unavailable.
To address this challenge, Zero Carbon
Charge, in collaboration with Elum Energy, worked
together to deliver modern off grid stations along N3
(Johannesburg – Durban) to coordinate multiple
energy assets to enable reliable, high-performance,
and sustainable EV fast charging.
ePowerControl EV provides the following functions:
- Operates BESS in Prime Mode, using the
battery as the primary power source. - Automatically manages generator start/stop
based on battery SoC and site demand. - Monitors Modbus-compatible EV charging
stations in real time. - Coordinates the operation of the BESS,
generator, and EV chargers to ensure stable
power delivery. - Provides centralised monitoring of energy
flows, battery performance, generator status,
and charger operation. - Optimises PV utilisation while reducing
generator runtime and operating costs.
- Layout:
PV – 300 KWp
2 x Sineng – SN125PT - BESS: 645 kWh
1 x Sinexcel PWS1-500KTL - Genset: 320 KVa
1 x DeepSea DSE8610 MKII - EV Charger: 360 kW DC
