Application
Utility-scale BESS project

The Context

This project involves deploying a utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Chile to support renewable energy integration and enhance grid stability.

The BESS uses lithium-ion batteries with liquid cooling, offering compact design, high energy density, and long lifecycle.

An ePowerControl PPC optimizes BESS management, peak shaving, and grid support.

Operation Modes:

  • Grid Prime Mode operates under normal conditions, with the BESS supporting the grid through active and reactive power management. Key functions include Automated Blackstart for outages, Ramp Rate Controls, Time of Use Management, State of Charge Targeting, and External Control for third-party integration.

  • BESS Prime Mode allows the BESS to regulate voltage and frequency as a grid-forming source in islanded mode. Functions include Automated and Manual Grid Reconnection for smooth return to Grid Prime.
