The context

  • Product: ePowerControl MC

South Africa’s largest retail and digital bank has adopted solar to reduce grid reliance, cut energy costs, and operate off-grid during load shedding. The site features 7 Huawei inverters and a 500 kW battery system. Using Elum ePowerControl MC for reliability and cost optimization, the plant operates in two modes:

  • Grid Prime mode: The generator is offline, the PV plant limits active power injection at the Point of Common Coupling (PCC), and charges the battery.

  • Genset Prime mode: The genset regulates system voltage and frequency, while the BESS operates in grid-following mode, ensuring minimal genset load and reduced diesel reliance.
  • Layout:
    PV:  700 kWp
  • BESS: 500 kWh
  • Gensets: 2500 kW

  • Inverters: 7 x Huawei 100 KTL
    BESS: ATESS 500 kWh
  • Gensets: DeepSea 2500 kW
