Rooftop PV Plant Reduces Fuel Costs for Wine Farm in South Africa

Application
Solar diesel integration
The context
- Product: ePowerControl SD
This wine farm in South Africa requires a stable power supply to maintain service quality despite frequent load shedding episodes. To curtail fuel energy costs, a large rooftop PV plant has been installed.
The primary goal of this project was to reduce fuel consumption and enable self-consumption through PV energy for an industrial building. Elum Energy ePowerControl SD facilitated the integration of a solar plant (consisting of 4 SMA inverters) with an existing diesel genset plant, disconnected from the main incomer during outages. This setup ensures optimal PV production while maintaining the genset at minimum loading.
- Layout:
PV: 240 kWp - Gensets: 500 kVA
- Inverters: 2 x SMA
Gensets: 1
